CONCEPT – What is the core idea you’re writing toward? If you don’t have a clear concept or central goal for the song, it can easily become watered down and lose its meaning. A strong concept keeps the song focused and impactful.
THE HOOK – What is the hook of your song? Is it the last line of the chorus or a recurring phrase? What are you pointing listeners toward? Take your concept and distill it into a memorable hook. The hook is crucial—it’s what people walk away singing and remembering.
ARRANGEMENT – How is the song arranged? Does it flow naturally from one section to the next? Does the structure feel organic and intentional? A well-arranged song keeps the listener engaged from start to finish.
TEMPO & KEY – Tempo and key work hand in hand. Is the key right for the vocalist? Does it match the theme and emotional tone of the song? When considering tempo, ask: Should this song move faster? Is the current tempo making it feel too slow or lifeless?
EMOTION – You can have all the right building blocks, but if there’s no genuine emotion behind the delivery, it won’t connect. The artist needs to feel it—and so do the listeners. Make sure the song is relatable, believable, and full of heart.
